Background of the study
Viral social media trends have become catalysts for morphosyntactic innovation, particularly on Twitter where hashtag movements are prevalent. In Nigeria, users adopt trending hashtags to express complex ideas succinctly, prompting modifications in sentence structure, word order, and grammatical conventions (Ibrahim, 2023). Hashtag movements serve not only as tools for information categorization but also as creative spaces where traditional morphosyntactic rules are reinterpreted. Users often blend conventional syntax with innovative constructions to produce compact, impactful messages that resonate with diverse audiences. The rapid dissemination and iterative modification of these messages enable a continuous process of language evolution that reflects both global digital trends and local cultural influences. This study investigates the impact of viral hashtag movements on Nigerian morphosyntax by analyzing a corpus of tweets associated with popular campaigns. It seeks to identify how these digital phenomena reshape grammatical structures and contribute to the broader evolution of language in online environments (Okafor, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Although viral hashtag movements are central to digital discourse in Nigeria, research on their morphosyntactic impact is limited. Studies tend to focus on their sociopolitical significance while neglecting the detailed syntactic innovations they drive. This oversight restricts our understanding of the processes behind morphosyntactic change and prevents the development of comprehensive models that integrate digital language innovation (Chukwu, 2023).

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the direct influence of viral trends on morphosyntax, providing insights into digital language evolution. The findings will enhance theoretical frameworks and inform educators and policymakers on adapting to language changes driven by digital activism (Ibrahim, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to Nigerian Twitter hashtag movements; it does not consider other social media platforms or offline language use.
Definitions of terms
